Moulton-Udell Music Classes
Courses currently taught during the academic year at Moulton-Udell Community School:
7-12th Grade Band
The 7-12th Grade Band is open to any student in grades 7-12, who plays a wind or percussion instrument. Members will have the opportunity to participate in the following: Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, Honor Band, small ensembles and solo performances. Lessons during the school year will be scheduled.
7-12th Grade Jazz Band
This ensemble is created each year based on interest and instrumentation. Jazz Band will rehearse before school starting in late September. Students who participate in jazz band will have the opportunity to earn credit based on criteria outlined by Ms. Sicinski and administration.
7-12th Grade Vocal Music
The main focus of this course is the study of fundamentals of ensemble singing in a choir setting. Students will learn about music of various cultures and time periods. Focuses in the curriculum include vocal technique, sight-reading, music theory, music appreciation, and music history. Students will be required to perform in both the Winter and Spring Concerts. Students will also have the opportunity to perform with the Bluegrass Conference Honor Choir each Fall. Vocal Music is open to all students in grades seven through twelve.
Elementary Band (5th and 6th Grade Only)
The elementary band is comprised of 5th and 6th grade students who are in their first or second year of study on wind instruments. Students may join band on either a brass or woodwind instrument, pre-approved by the teacher. Students focus on fundamentals of wind band playing such as instrument assembly, posture, breath support, reading music notation, and creating an ideal tone on the instrument. 5th and 6th grade students will receive weekly small-group lessons, in addition to rehearsal with the full band. 6th graders are required to perform in both the Winter and Spring Concerts. 5th graders may perform in the Spring Concert after successful completion of an audition into full band.
Elementary General Music (Pre-Kindergarten Through 6th Grade)
All elementary students will attend two music classes per week. In general music we explore the music of many different cultures and time periods. Through singing, playing instruments, music composition, movement activities and listening exercises, students will learn about the main elements of music including melody, harmony, notation, rhythm, form, and style,
